A renowned academician, teacher, researcher, author and editor with more than 30 years experience, he has published more than 200 papers and edited/authored 30 books including PG Textbook of Pediatrics, Clinical Methods in Pediatrics, Textbook of Community Medicine, Essential Pediatric Nursing, IAP Textbook of Pediatrics, Principles of Medical Education, and How to Write a Thesis. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of Indian Pediatrics, (official journal of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics) for 6 years. He has been conferred fellowships by the Royal College of Paediatrics, UK; Indian Academy of Pediatrics; National Neonatology Forum, India; National Academy of Medical Sciences, India; and awarded by the American Academy of Pediatrics for his work on micronutrients. His major initiatives include workshops on thesis and scientific paper writing; and increasing awareness for practicing rational management of diarrhea and pneumonia in children. Dr Piyush Gupta has served as technical expert/advisor to Government of India, WHO, DBT, UNICEF, and ICMR. He has delivered 15 orations, including the prestigious KL Wig Oration in the field of Medical Education in India. He has served as the Joint secretary of South Asia Pediatrics Association. He is serving on the editorial board of several journals including The Journal of Pediatrics (USA), rated amongst the top ranking pediatric journals, globally. His thrust areas are Nutrition, Child survival, and Medical Education. He is presently working on the role of sunlight in prevention of vitamin D deficiency in children. Recently, He was awarded the Teacher of Excellence award by the Vice President of India. Indian Academy of Pediatrics has elected him to the highest office as its President-elect 2020.
